Upcoming Work Parties (10am-2pm):
Every Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday
Volunteer Work Parties
The Nature Consortium hosts volunteer work parties year round on almost every Saturday from 10am - 2pm, and on many other dates. Each work party begins with a short informal forest ecology workshop. During the spring and summer we mulch, remove invasive species and maintain our site. During the fall and winter we remove invasive species, mulch, and plant native plants and trees in the West Duwamish Greenbelt (see below for more details and check out our Blog). Performing artists including singers, instrumentalists, and dancers come "play in the woods" during many of our work parties.

What to Bring
Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Bring a full water bottle. We will have water available for refills. We provide granola bars, but please feel free to bring a lunch as well.
What to Wear
Working out in the elements requires the right apparel. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required. We highly recommend wearing:
- Boots - or some type of shoe that can get muddy and will keep your feet dry
- Long Pants - and remember if it’s raining jeans get soaked, so waterproof materials
are always better
- Layers Check-out the links below for more info on the reasons for layering:
Wicking Layer - such as polypropylene
Warmth Layers - such as wool or fleece
Outer Layer - that is wind and water-resistant
- A Hat - we lose a lot of heat through our heads, wearing a hat will help to keep you
from getting sick
We curently have three different restoraton locations, so it is important to RSVP to confirm where we will be meeting. Click

West Duwamish Greenbelt
The Nature Consortium's Urban Forest Restoration Project is committed to long-term stewardship and restoration of the West Duwamish Greenbelt, the largest remaining contiguous forest within Seattle city limits. Comprised of 182 city park acres and another 300+/- privately owned acres, the Greenbelt is home to foxes, red-legged frogs, hawks, and bald eagles. It is the forest covering the eastern slopes of West Seattle and is visible from I-5, SR-99, and the West Seattle Bridge. Our restoration goal is the reintroduction of conifer species to the greenbelt via invasive plant removal, native plantings, site maintenance and environmental education.
