This experiential performing-arts based event which includes a wide variety of live music performances, dance troupes, aerial & fire performances, interactive arts activities, illuminaria, and sound & visual installations in 8 of the rustic cabins creating a Museum of Sound that festival attendees can explore and interact with. Some of this year’s festival artists included: Trimpin, The Moondoggies, The Legandary Oaks, Lelavision, The Cabiri, Christian Swenson, Caspar Babypants, and The Early Music Guild to name a few. The event is free with a suggested $10 donation. It is also a waste-free event with food served on reusable plates and cloth napkins.
Performances take place in 5 different venues throughout the park: The Lodge, the forested grove by The Pond, the climbing Glacier, the Meadow and in the Geodesic Dome. The festival offers a wide array of eclectic and traditional music offerings ranging from classical and early music, to world, jazz, Americana and roots. Dance troupes perform in various locations throughout the park, and wandering musicians roam the forested landscape between the cabins.
Camp Long’s rustic cabins house the “museum of sound” where artists take up residency for the weekend and create multidisciplinary installations that blend sound, auditory arts, music and visual arts. Most of the cabins have an interactive, hands-on component, allowing attendees to enter and interact with the artists’ work. 2011′s Museum of Sound artists included: Trimpin, Chris Ballew & Kate Endle, Hollow Earth Radio, Perri Lynch, and Nature Consortium Youth Art Program students.
The festival includes lots of interactive and hands-on activities such as EcoRhythm Instrument Building, Fabric Animals & Birds, Printmaking, a community mosaic project, and Naturalist activities in the Community and Youth Arts Areas. This year’s food and drink will be provided by Taco Flair and Chef Kevin Anselmi, served with reusable plates, cups and cloth napkins. With a serious commitment to conservation, all festival marketing materials are printed on 100% post consumer waste paper. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $10.00 per person–no one is turned away for lack of funds.
